The most feared of all topics: Politics
I'd like to talk a bit about politics. Maybe it's just that I'm surrounded by liberal nuts all the time, except for when I go back to my hometown where I am surrounded by conservative nuts, but all I ever hear about is politics. I am not interested in politics. I am not interested in rhetoric. I do not believe that every horrid things that happens is solely the result of one man. I think that people give the president too much credit, regardless of who is the president at the moment, and they also tend to forget that each president inherits the problems of the last administration, both the problems that are already apparent and the ones that have yet to show their face. No president begins his term with a clean slate. If I knew nothing about this society and was suddenly transplanted here at any point in time, I would think that the President was a god. After all, the President is omniscient. He makes every decision. Every reaction in our lovely society is a result of his action. I, personally, see the President as a sort of glorified PTA mom. Both have their little clique of do-gooders around. Both spend an absurd amount of time on fundraisers. Both are always talking, talking, talking (Silence is Golden! Why have people forgotten this cute turn of phrase?). Most importantly, both are equally sinister and should be avoided at all costs. But alas, we all (excluding the anarchists) seem to be agreed that we need a government, so we keep electing PTA and US Heads of State.
Another thing that irritates me is the hypocrisy of the "liberals" who run about yelling about how the "conservatives" are judgmental and unaccepting of difference and new ideas, and all the "conservatives" need to transform themselves to be like the "liberals." Why? Because it is obviously unacceptable for liberals that there are other groups that have differing opinions. At the same time, the conservatives point at the liberals and demand that they acquire some morals. Both groups point at each other and accuse the other of the same exact thing that they themselves are being accused of. Is it so hard to perceive that we live in a vast nation where people have literally come from all over the world to be here? Obviously we are not going to agree on everything. However, conservatives need to realize that there are people out there, people who do have morals, that they have political authority over, just as liberals need to realize that there are people out there who, for various reasons, even reasons that are not tied up with terrifying anti-liberal ideas (such as Christianity....the horror, the horror!), that they have political authority over. One group cannot make a good decision without taking into account ALL the people in the country who will actually be affected by their policies.
After all this has been said, I must admit that I actually found a potential candidate for president that I actually like. This is a first. However, I still suffer from political apathy, which I know is a bad thing. I think my apathy comes from a knowledge that governments have always existed, will always exist, and will continue to make both good and bad decisions. I would just like people to stop yelling at me (and other innocent, apathetic bystanders) about politics. I don't care, and more than likely, I disagree with you, unless you are one of those rare jewels who actually stops and THINKS and attempts to take in the whole picture. I like those jewels, even when I still disagree with them

I seriously need to make it north of the Mason-Dixon line for reasons other than airport layovers.
